Wairata Hazels is part of Wairata Forest Farm, a farming venture in the hills of the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
We are developing sustainable land use systems placing a variety of tree crops in a pastoral setting.
We have grown and researched hazels since 1982, with over 30 selections in our variety area.
Our research has covered variety selection, spacing trials, pests and diseases.
We have a breeding programme to develop varieties for the future and have imported new varieties from the Oregon State University breeding programme.
